Lost Birdie Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Great-Gazoo: Headed out today for a stroll in the woods. Recall why I like this location so much! Off the standard trail, did a 100m snowshoe trek through a foot of powder. Got to GZ, and did a few loops of the area.... sadly, could not find the container. Archiving the cache, to make space for a new birdie! [green][b][I]The Great-Gazoo

Geocache Description:

Thanks to Model-12, I got to know Monaghan Forest alot better this winter, looking for birdies. I think I lost one on the way!

Posted coordinates are a farm near the parking lot where you can get access to the trailhead, which is located by the Sylvie Birdie. No parking at the farm itself for caching, though this is a fun place to visit in the summer for kiddies.

While tromping through the snow, found a number of routes through the woods, helping me get from here to there. For some reason, this area I got to a number of times while bird watching. I can confirm a piliated woodpecker is still active in the area, as I had the pleasure of watching him excavate a hole from 20 feet away for 2-3 minutes before he realized I was in the area.

This cache is located as follows:

  • 189 meters from Megan
  • 187 meters from Kimmy
  • 263 meters from Lisa
  • 364 meters from Marjorie

Well, that should be much clearer, with Lisa and Megan now with the proper settings - thanks cron!

Contents of the cache when hidden:

  • softball from Winnipeg Goldeyes
  • hand made clay candle holder
  • 2008 calender & pen set
  • upper Jock River Race fridge Magnet
  • 2 mini toy Simba flashlights
  • Tim Horton's $2 Gift Certificate
  • and a GeoCoin I happened to have with me

And of course, a logbook, pencil, and geocaching manifesto.

This cache is definately easier to find in the winter, with snowshoes being the optimal mode of transportation. Nordic skis would also work, though there is a 10m bushwack near the end.

I will be very interested in what the area looks like in the summer!

Definately winter friendly. Enjoy.
