The CCGC, which brought you the
Cach-a-Malus and the
Cache-Cynara, have now taken on the task of product testing of
Groundspeak's newest GPS related activity: Wherigo!
To this end, after countless hours hunched over their computers,
the CCGC proudly presents the first in, perhaps (or perhaps not), a
series of Tutorial Caches. For many of us, our first exposure
to Wherigo will take the form of actually playing a Cartridge, and
not taking on the laborious task of programming one. With
that in mind, the scientific community of the CCGC submits this
humble attempt at a simple Cartridge in order to acquaint the
Geocaching Community with the experience of actually playing a
Cartridge.
In The Zone
You will need to go to the following link and download the
Cartridge necessary to find the Final Cache of this Listing;
CITOtorial
After opening the Cartridge on your device, you may ask
yourself, "Where in the name of Pete is the first Zone?"
That's right, this tutorial Cartridge will not have visible
Zones. Instead it will test your skills at observation and
reflexes. Starting at the coordinates at the top of the
Listing, you will need to walk East (that will be to your right as
you face the ocean) on the Monterey Bay Coastal Bike Path.
The route will take you on a 0.5 mile stretch of the path, which
coincidentally, has been adopted by the members of the CCGC.
In keeping with the theme of the Adopt-A-Trail program sponsored by
the City of Monterey, this tutorial Cartridge will require you to
virtually pick up "Litterbugs".
During the development of this Tutorial CITO Cache, we employed
the help of Focus Groups, and one of the recurring difficulties
that participants seemed to struggle with in the Wherigo Cartridge
world was the ability to get "In the Zone". A variety of
methods were tried, but eventually a small set of maneuvers were
found that tended to optimize the ability to locate the Zones
programmed in the Cartridges. We suggest reviewing the
following link to make yourself familiar with the laboratory tested
techniques that we found helpful:
