Geocache Description:

Situated in Westbrook Bay Sunken Garden on the Isle of Thanet! A nice easy cache in a beautiful location with lovely views of The North Sea.

During WW2, Westgate was an air base, and the grassy area above Westbrook Bay, which is now used for recreation, was a short airstrip. There is a plaque on the promenade testifying to this fact.

On the East cliffs of Westbrook Bay, one can find the Sunken Garden.

Grandma used to live in one of the houses overlooking the garden and enjoyed walking here and on the beach. Unfortunately Grandma passed away on 7th November 2009. The cache was placed long before she was diagnosed with cancer and she used to help maintain it. Grandad still lives by the sea though and can keep an eye on the cache.

This cache is now in memory of Grandma and all the happy times we spent at the beach here.

The cache has been hidden in a new location within the garden as it has been muggled on three previous occaisons.

Caution is required when retrieving the cache as it is placed at the bottom of a thorny bush (hopefully to keep the muggles at bay). Please rehide it carefully.

There is plenty of parking nearby and I would recommend a stroll down to the beach. Cache hounds are allowed on the beach, except between April and October. There is a great little cafe just a few hundred to the West of the cache called 'Pavs' at St Mildreds Bay and kids will love the rock pools at low tide.

Happy hunting!

When hidden the cache was jammed with goodies (keyrings, fridge magnets and badges) We also christened it with two TBs.
