Geocache Description:

Just outside the Martinsville city limits, in an easy-to-reach location.

You're looking for the site of the old Liberty Grocery Store, which when I was a kid in the early 60s struck me as kind of a "frontier" grocery because it was the last sign of civilization before heading into the rural wilds of Henry County. About fifteen years ago, the local fire department burned down the store, leaving only a cleared parking lot, which has become something of a de facto rest stop for travelers coming off the U.S. 58/220 bypass, which lies a short distance to the east. Parking at the site (N 36° 39.300, W 079° 49.380) should be no problem as long as you're not there for hours on end.

The cache is located just across the road from the old grocery store lot, on a wooded trail that I hiked frequently in my teenage years. The trail entrance is only a short distance from the site of the old store, and the cache should be a very quick and easy find. It is a small Rubbermaid container that features an eclectic assortment of goodies.

Do use typical caution for hiking in the woods — beware of briers, poison plants, bugs, etc. Be careful, and have fun!

Congrats to Spring1, FTF.
