Geocache Description:

Located on the footpath, Do The Loop, that runs from I-75 exit 212 to exit 215. A scenic route. ;-)

Beware: This cache is a 'nano'!!!! It's smaller than a 35mm film canister. Ogemaw Township, West Branch Township, and the city of West Branch are developing a footpath from one I-75 exit to the other. It is a work in progress. The circuit is named 'Do The Loop' so that area travelers can see the history of this community and the surrounding area. Take your time, SIT and enjoy. ;-) The statue in front of you is titled 'Mountain Man' by Frederic Remington (1861-1909). He was an American artist best known for his action-filled paintings, drawings, and sculptures of cowboys and Indians. His works became famous for capturing the vitality and spirit of the West. The Mountain Man represented one of Frederic Remington's favorite historical subjects. He relished depicting the hardy trappers who hunted during the first half of the ninetheenth century. In this statue, he has portrayed just such a figure descending a steep mountain sloop with confidence and surefootedness. The Mountain Man was selected as the offical Commemorative Bronze for the 1984 Inauuration of President Ronal Reagan - adding historic value to its intrinsic worth as a classic of Western art. Back to the 'Loop'..... it is a work in progress and is just beginning to take shape after a couple years in the planning. The walkway will be completed first and then 'attractions' will be added to compliment the understanding of this region. There will be lots of information and just a plain fun walk if you're up to the entire 5.2 miles of it. Take your time and make a day of it. The West Branch area has lots to offer..... and we're friendly! Speaking of the 'micro'..... there is no room for anything other than the nano log. You'll have to bring a pen or pencil with ya. I plan to place a few more along the route.
