PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION......A moderate walk nearly all flat, fair bit of rough terrain. Total return walk time about 1 1/4 hours from the Crow Road in the Campsies. There is a river and a few easy drainage channels to be crossed so proper footwear required.
Another classic Campsie cache, a good starting and parking point is layby at (N 56 01.625 W 004 10.608) there are also two large laybys 100 metres South of here.
Good boots are a must for this even in relatively dry weather, not suitable for dogs as sheep in first part of walk. Last 300 yards of walk has only a hint of a path through the long grass.
Cross the road watching for cars, cross the cattle grid, walk down the access road towards Waterhead Farm, immediatly after crossing a new steel bridge turn left into forestry track, follow this track around to the right and uphill through the trees to a good wide grassy firebreak to the left. (N 56 01.395 W 004 9.937)
Follow the grass break crossing a few small ditches to the river, turn South along the dyke, boggy in places, stay near the wall, fantastic views of Meikle Bin, use your GPS to proceed, your goal should pop into view very soon.
The only major obstacle is the river, but only after prolonged heavy rain. You will need to cross the river at a point near the cache, this is fairly straightforward with good boots as there are a few places to cross.
Walking distance in 2.6 miles round trip.
Still a well known route to Meikle Bin as opposed to the Carron Reservoir route.
