Out in the Sticks Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

wanderin' aimlessly: My intention was to disable and move to a different location since the property had been sold. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I cannot relocate the cache in a timely manner. My priority is now with my out of town parents and helping take care of my dad on hospice.

Geocache Description:

This cache has been temporarily disabled due to property being sold. We hope to relocate within the next 6-8 weeks. Thanks to all that have visited and thanks to Richard for use of the property for the last 16 years.  Ammo can camouflaged into environment. Flat, bumpy terrain, strollers and wheelchairs not advised. Some thorns, usual seasonal critters. Park at gate. Geocachers can go beyond No Trespassing signs.

This cache is nestled away in an area that sort of reminds me of my childhood days in the mountains of North Carolina. My brothers and our best friends were always doing something in the woods. If we could find a nice area of fallen trees, limbs, thick bushes, etc., we could make anything from a fort to a house with a couple of rooms. We played cowboys and Indians with the perfect limb or branch for a horse, gun, and bow and arrows. Armies fought many battles with pine cone grenades, water balloon bombs, and again our own personal weapon made from a stick or branch that even had a bayonet. In our house, the guys hunted for food and we cooked beans from the “bean tree” and “fish” shaped leaves, and acorns and smaller pine cones. Sometimes we would take picnic lunches with us to have food that we could really eat. We put the babies to bed with covers made from giant leaves “sewn” together with the leaf stems. Whatever we could imagine became real for the day. Even after the nightly bath to get rid of the “woodsy” varmints, we would scratch and complain about the chigger bites, but the next day we were back at it again to relive a new adventure. Ahh…the carefree life of a child. Of course, the area is not as thick and wooded as our playground, but the potential is still there. You are looking for an ammo can on the edge of private property within sight of main road. The house and outbuilding are unoccupied and the area should be a low concern for muggles at this time. Owner of property helped to place cache. Park next to cable gate and take short walk to cache. Wheelchairs and strollers are not advisable due to flat, but rough, terrain. Watch for the usual seasonal critters that come with playing in the woods.
