Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches placed by New Mexico Geocachers in a cooperative effort with New Mexico State Parks (NMSP) to celebrate New Mexico State Parks 75th Anniversary. A cache has been placed in each of the 34 state parks around New Mexico.
Featuring native plants and animals of the Chihuahuan Desert, visitors can walk a 1.3-mile trail through the desert habitats and see exhibits of more than 40 species, including mountain lions, bobcats, fox, deer, elk, javelina, and Maggie the bear.
Be sure to check the following points of interest while you are there.
* The Succulents of the World Greenhouse showcases plants of spectacular form and flowers from around the world.
* Mescalero Apaches roasted the heads of the mescal agave, or century plant, in the Mescal Pit.
* You can see three endangered species of the Chihuahuan Desert here: Mexican Gray Wolves, Bolson Tortoises and Thick-billed Parrots.

Since this cache is located within the zoo, a per person fee is required (Annual Day-Use permits are not vaild for this park).
If you see any of the Park's staff while you are there, be sure to let them know you are a Geocacher.
Placed with permission. This is one of three caches in the fee area of the park.

Admission to the park is $5.00 per person 13 and older, $3.00 for children 7-12 and free for children 6 and under.

Summer hours: Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, 8AM to 5PM with last entry at 3:30PM. The best time to come in the summer is when the park opens. It's cooler then and the animals are active. Afternoons may be over 100 degrees, not the best time for a hike. Winter hours: Day after Labor Day until Memorial Day weekend, 9AM to 5PM with last entry at 3:30PM
