Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches placed by New Mexico Geocachers in a cooperative effort with New Mexico State Parks (NMSP) to celebrate New Mexico State Parks 75th Anniversary. A cache has been placed in each of the 34 state parks around New Mexico.

A new 6,000 sq. ft. exhibit hall showcases vehicles and artifacts from the 1916 Pancho Villa raid on Columbus, NM and historic Camp Furlong. Stroll through the remnants of the historic camp and the desert botanical gardens. Camping and picnic areas available.

Be sure to check the following points of interest while you are there.

* Pancho Villa State Park’s new museum, houses historical artifacts dating from Pancho Villa’s raid in 1916 and the U.S. Army’s subsequent Punitive Expedition into Mexico.

* Coote’s Hill is the most prominent feature in the park and is wrapped in a beautiful botanical garden that includes a variety of cacti and native plants.

* Three park buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 1902 former U.S. Customs House, two adobe structures from the Camp Furlong-era and the Camp Furlong Recreation Hall.

It is not necessary to cross the fence to find the cache.

Since this cache is located within the State Park system, a Day Use or Annual Pass, which can be obtained from any State Park, will be required.

If you see any of the Park's staff while you are there, be sure to let them know you are a Geocacher.

Placed with permission.
