This cache is part of a series of caches placed by New Mexico
Geocachers in a cooperative effort with New Mexico State Parks
(NMSP) to celebrate New Mexico State Parks 75th Anniversary. A
cache has been placed in each of the 34 state parks around New
Mexico.
This 1,100 surface-acre lake is popular for swimming, water
skiing, personal watercraft fun and fishing for Rainbow and German
Brown trout, catfish and crappie. Favorable summer breezes also
make this lake a popular spot for windsurfing.
Be sure to check the following points of interest while you are
there.
* Storrie Lakes historical photos of the 1800’s to include Doc
Holiday, the Santa Fe trail, construction of the lake and of
historic Las Vegas.
* The 1,100 surface acre lake allows for boating, windsurfing,
fishing, swimming and winter sports. Camping is a must do at
Storrie Lake.
* Storrie Lake attracts waterfowl during the late fall and
winter migration. Canadian geese, ducks, bald eagles and sand hill
cranes are some of the waterfowl that can be viewed.
Since this cache is located within the State Park system, a Day
Use or Annual Pass, which can be obtained from any State Park, will
be required.
If you see any of the Park's staff while you are there, be sure
to let them know you are a Geocacher.
Placed with permission.
