This cache is part of a series of caches placed by New Mexico
Geocachers in a cooperative effort with New Mexico State Parks
(NMSP) to celebrate New Mexico State Parks 75th Anniversary. A
cache has been placed in each of the 34 state parks around New
Mexico.
The only state park in the country dedicated as a Vietnam
Veterans Memorial, provides visitors a place to reflect, with the
6,000 sq. ft. visitor center offering videos, exhibits and
memorabilia. The park’s mission is education. Admission is
free.
Be sure to check the following points of interest while you are
there.
* The Peace and Brotherhood Chapel rises nearly 50 feet and
features graceful curving walls that disappear into the ground.
* The Bell UH-1 Iroquois, known as a HUEY was given to the
Memorial by the NM Army National Guard in 1999. This HUEY flew in
combat in Vietnam, was brought back, repaired and returned for a
second tour of duty.
* A life -size statue entitled, “Dear Mom and Dad” depicts an
American infantryman in the field trying his best to keep in touch
with the folks back home.
Since this cache is located within the State Park system, a Day
Use or Annual Pass, which can be obtained from any State Park, will
be required.
If you see any of the Park's staff while you are there, be sure
to let them know you are a Geocacher.
