Sudbrooku Too Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Blorenges: Time for this one to go. It's had a decent life span. The location originally had a nice view of the bridge but now the path's been moved and the surrounding bushes have grown and the view has diminished . Thanks to all who've done the cache over the years - it still has its original logbook too.

Geocache Description:

As Mrs B can never resist reviving a good pun, this is the sequel to our original Sudbrooku cache. The co-ordinates above are a possible parking area and the cache is a 7"x5"x2" click lock box. The cache location is accessible by wheelchair - please contact us if you require more details.

Sudbrook has many interesting features including the remains of an Iron Age fort, ruins of an old chapel, great views of the Second Severn Crossing and last, but certainly not least, the pumping station for the Severn Railway Tunnel which was built by Thomas Walker and completed in 1885. The tunnel project was almost stopped during construction in 1879 when they broke through into the Great Spring which flooded the workings. It was eventually shored up but two pumping stations were built on either side of the river. The large building here at Sudbrook originally housed 6 Cornish beam pumping engines. These were replaced in the 1960’s with electric pumps. These still pump some 60 million litres (some 13 million gallons) of water a day out of the tunnel. This water was used extensively in the Llanwern steel works and is also fed into the normal water supply. The strange building with a curved metal roof houses a fan for ventilating the tunnel.

As before, the cache is easy to find..... once you've solved the puzzle. For those who have never done a Sudoku puzzle before, all you have to do is complete the grid so that every row, column and 3x3 box contains the digits 1 to 9.

Use the numbers from the completed grid to solve the cache co-ordinates:

N 51° 35. (G2)(D7+I1)(D6) W 02° 42. (F9+F6)(D4)(E9)

The 2½ star difficulty reflects the effort required to solve the puzzle. Please do it the traditional way, using a pencil and brainpower: Anyone using a "cheat" will have their stars forcibly ripped from their epaulettes
