Geocache Description:

Porter Field is contained within the Minnippi Parkland. This part of Minnippi Parkland was formerly a farm owned by the Porter Family. The family made a large contribution to the local community and the early development of Brisbane and especially to the area we now know as Tingalpa.

During the 1940’s and 1950’s Stan Porter operated aircraft from this part of the farm. The official reason for the aircraft was said to be mail contracts, however his love of aviations and flying was probably closer to the truth.

Sadly this love was to cost stand and his eldest son Keith their lives. Their aircraft inexplicably crashed into nearby Doboy Creek in 1954. Des, the younger son survived the accident.

Porter Field is now home to Tingalpa Model Aero Club. The club’s flying facilities are open all year round for members and provides a safe flying venue recognised by our State and National Associations and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia. The club operates seven days per week 07:00 - dark Monday to Friday and 08:00 - dark Saturday and Sunday.

TMAC welcomes spectators and interested new comers. Expert Instructors are available during operating hours by appointment.

More information can be found at (visit link)

Minnippi Parkland has fantastic facilities with playgrounds, barbeques and toilet facilities, so spend a day in the park and watch the model airplanes and helicopters. The park is open from 7am to 7pm but cache is still accessable outside of these times but you will have to walk a bit further.

Due to its location the coordinates for the cache were a little sketchy as there are no clear skies at GZ. Coordinates have been averaged from around the area where a decent GPS signal could be received.
