Although this can be done as a cache & dash, the intention is
to explore Titchfield Abbey. The cache is a clear plastic nano cache
with a white lid. There is room for the logbook only - please BYO
pen/pencil.
Though a great deal has been destroyed, there are still major
remains of the abbey and Place House to be seen. The nave of the
church still stands to full height and with it Wriothesley's
gatehouse. Fragments of the cloister buildings survive, including
the entrance arches to the chapter house and library in the east
range. Large areas of the late mediaeval tile floors are preserved.
The abbey now belongs to English Heritage and is open to the
public. Parking is available at N 50° 51.326 W 001° 13.848. I have
been attempting to gain permission for a nano cache, within the
grounds of Titchfield Abbey, from English Heritage since August
2007. Unfortunately after all this time, I have had my request
declined. I have now found a spot outside the grounds, with a view
of the Abbey, with the intention of cachers visiting the Abbey
en-route to the cache. Please be careful of the road as it gets
busy at certain times (esp office rush hour and lunch times), so
may not be suitable for children or dogs. You do not need to stand
on the road to find the cache, it can be reached from the grass
verge .I can also recommend the Fishermans Rest pub if you fancy
some food. Difficulty has been upgraded from 2 to 3 as so many
people are having issues finding it
