Geocache Description:

En enkel cache på vägen till en förlorad kulturskatt A simple cache on the road to a lost cultural treasure

Under sommarmånaderna pågår aktiviteter kring återuppbyggnaden. The Old Church of Södra Råda used to be one of the best preserved wooden Medevial churches in Sweden. It was completely covered with the original paintings, dating as far back as the 14th century. The church was destroyed by an arsonist in November 2001. An archeological study followed, and went on for three years. One of the main findings was that an even older church had once stood there. The church is to be rebuilt, using traditional methods. This work began in 2007. At the site, there is a small exhibition about the church and the paintings. In the summer months, various activities related to the reconstruction take place. The large stone 100 m away from the church is called the Ring Stone. When the priest passed this stone on his way to the service, it was time to ring the church bells.
