Geocache Description:

Balderston or Balderstone is a village and civil parish in the Ribble Valley district of Lancashire, north-east of Preston and north-west of Blackburn. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 379.

Balderston Hall sits on the south bank of the River Ribble on the inner side of a horseshoe bend adjacent to the village of Balderston. Little remains of the old hall however the barn is still standing. The first settler in this area was believed to be 'Baldhere' from whom the area no doubt derived its name. The Osbaldeston family settled here in the 13th century, changing their name to Balderston. The family descends from Anglo-Saxon settlers, whose ancient manor was mentioned as far back as the twelfth century.

We have initially set 5 caches around Balderston which can be done in a 2 to 3 mile circular walk from the suggested parking place, there is room for about 3 cars, or they could be done individually as drive bys but parking close to the caches may be difficult because of the narrow lanes.

No. 2 is a Disguised Micro-cache .
