Geocache Description:

Part of the Chorley Challenge - a cache in every Chorley village!

Cuerden

It's hard to place a cache in Cuerden without it being in Cuerden Valley Park! Opposite Back Lane in Clayton-Le-Woods is one of the entrances to the 650 acre 'Wildlife Park' through which flows the River Lostock. About half of the land is let for agricultural use, mainly grazing. The river flows through fluvio-glacial deposits of sand and gravel. A lake in the park built in 1890 originally provided a supply of water for Cuerden Hall situated at the north end of the park. This is the home to the Cuerdale hoard that is believed to have been buried by Vikings in approx 902 AD. Cuerdale follows the Knoll from Walton-le-Dale to Samlesbury. A cross is located at the junction of Potter Lane.

Path to Nowhere...?

I tried to get to this path from the other side, near B&Q, but couldn't get through because of some large scale building works. There's a new Bentley and Lotus car showroom being built, and that seems to have put paid to the right of way.

So, in that case, this path appears to go nowhere!

However, a new path has been laid, which traverses all around the large motorway roundabout at the end of the M65. This new path is clearly signposted, and is easy to track underfoot, but it's not on the OS maps yet.
