Wooded area off Summers Lane near St Saviours church Totland and Farringford House.
Named Witches Wood because my friend says this is how he knew it as a child, eerie at dusk with strange noises from the undergrowth.
Nearby is the former home of Victorian poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, now a privately run hotel.
Alf said in his poem Ulysses:
"To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
One can only speculate as to whether or not this indicates Lord T was involved in some Victorian variation on geocaching.
