Reed Canyon Wildlife Habitat (click on link above, near cache ratings, for their website)
Access is from SE 37th ave & Steele st.
Go south on 37th from Steele to park at the end of the dead-end just beyond Insley ct.
The initial coordinates are for parking at the trailhead.
This is a beautifully maintained loop trail (just under a mile long), inside a 26 acre wildlife habitat, that encircles a small lake. Start off to the Portal waypoint along the NORTH bank of the lake (so you'll be doing the loop counter-clockwise).
At the first waypoint you'll find a large portal to the underworld. Stamped into it's "gate" is a letter (could be the initial of who lives down there...) - how many letters into the alphabet is it? (A=1, Z=26)
Now continue on, pass under the footbridge, and go to the Fish Ladder waypoint. Here you'll find a little bridge/viewpoint with a steel coho salmon on it. How many see-through spots adorn its back? (By the way, salmon DO sometimes live here and use this ladder, right inside the city! More details are on their website.)
Add the letter number to the decimal minutes of the following dummy coordinate for the hide's true NORTH coordinate:
N 45 28.900
Add the salmon number to the decimal minutes of the following dummy coordinate for the hide's true WEST coordinate:
W 122 37.625
Head for the hide location back toward the trailhead but continuing along the loop, so now you'll follow the trail on the SOUTH edge of the lake.
Continue past the amphitheater, and go under the footbridge again.
The cache container is a clear plastic jar about 5" tall, externally marked as a geocache. It contains a logsheet but no pen.
The cache is not hidden on or next to the ground, and requires no climbing to access. It is not in plain sight, but mostly covered and tucked away. Please be sure to camo/cover/hide it when you're done - it has already gone missing once.
Have fun!
