Rhododendron Den Traditional Cache
JerryMonkey: I found remnants of the cache today. I would have replaced it, but the rhododendrons were beaten down by Sandy and were barely navigable. We'll see if the rhodies are able to lift their branches again in the spring. If so I'll explore other cache possibilities. Thanks to everyone who enjoyed the den. I am sorry to see this one go.

While walking in West Hills, a massive green wave of rhododendron on a hillside caught my interest. I tunneled my way to the heart and placed a geocache there. A cozy den to sign a logbook and trade stuff.
There's a medium sized lock-n-lock hidden in a traditional manner. The trails around here are sandy in sections and can get muddy in others. You may experience some hill climbing as well. There's a parking lot on Sweet Hollow Road (that charges a fee on weekends in the summer). Alternately, you can park on Reservoir Road and hike south.
The white trail is the wrong trail. If you take the white blazed trail the best option will be a 200+ foot bushwhack. Follow the horse trail that runs northerly from the parking lot, then pick up a small foot-trail on the west side to get nearer to the cache. The entrance to "the den" is about 100+ feet southeast of gz. Getting good satellite reception may be difficult once you enter, you may want to project where you are headed while there still is visible sky above.
