Geocache Description:

The coordinates listed below are for the best place to park. Please do not park behind the stables, this area is used for the loading and unloading of horses. The trailhead is behind the stables at N 41 26.126 W 081 50.582.

This is a nice hike along the river and through the woods. If you listen closely, you can at times hear the quack-like call of the Wood Frog, Rana sylvatica. Visit the Macaulay Library to hear it for yourself. The Wood Frog is one of our most common frogs with a wide distribution. It can be found across Alaska and Canada and into the Northeast and Upper Midwest areas of the United States and as far south as Georgia. Wood Frogs breed in early spring in the temporary pools that form in wet woodlands. This cache will take you by several good breeding areas. Keep your eyes and ears tuned and you may find one of our brown and tan little friends.

The entire hike will be along the bridle trail. Please yield the right of way to horses and if you bring you dog, make sure they are on a leash at all times. Do not attempt to access this cache from the south or east. There is no public access from this direction. You will be trespassing on private property if you attempt this route.

Please note this trail can be muddy year round and very messy in the spring and fall. Sturdy footwear, possibly waterproof boots, is highly recommended.
