Monopoly/Short Line R.R. Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

lasermom: A wren has taken over this container and she was just too cute to evict. I'm reluctant to archive since this is a tribute cache to one of my deceased brothers but I'm afraid I must.

Geocache Description:

Short Line Railroad cache is a seed from S10's Monopoly cache. (GC180YN.) It is on the line of the former C&NW RR which ran through Phelps.

This cache is dedicated to lasermom's oldest brother, William C. Wagaman, who was a conductor for the C&NW RR before his buyout and early retirement. When we were kids he'd beg everyone to play Monopoly. He made up his own rules and would loan everyone money just to keep the game going, and going, and going. We'd be falling asleep in the chair and he'd say "Don't quit now!" If he couldn't find an opponent he'd play against himself, running around the table. Sadly, he passed away at age 36 of a heart ailment. If you live near Monmouth or Galesburg, chances are you have a few railroaders in your family. In ours it was my Step-Dad, brother, first cousin, maternal grandfather, and paternal great-grandfather. Give 'em the highball, Billy! That's rail slang for the track is clear, the engineer can proceed at full speed. In the old days a ball was hoisted to the top of a tall poll as the signal. Later, a lantern or arm was swung in a semicircle.
