South Carolina Traditional Cache
flyfisher: I am archiving all my Government Canyon caches. I just can't maintain them from afar and have not been making enough regular trips to the canyon to keep them in good shape. Many thanks to all who visited and to the park for letting me place the caches. This should open some nice places for others to place caches in this beautiful park.

This cache is in Government Canyon State Natural Area. There is a fee to enter the natural area. The park is open from 8 AM to 6 PM Friday through Monday each week. The cache is a long way from the headquarters (almost three miles) and the trail is rocky, though well marked.
This cache is along a trail known as Caroline Loop. It is near the south end of the trail. Hence the name of the cache.
Caroline Loop is not one of the most popular trails in Government Canyon. Near the southern end of the trail, a short side trip will take the hiker to the top of the canyon overlook, a spectacular cliff overlooking part of the Joe Johnson trail.
If Caroline Loop is followed to its northern most intersection with the Joe Johnson (JJ) trail, then a hiker can return to the headquarters via the JJ trail. That would make for a nice 8 or 9 mile hike. If one simply walks to the cache and back, then the trip is closer to 6 miles than 5.
The scenery is great along the trail. There are multiple crossings of the (usually) dry creek. All these trails, except the overlook trail, can be mountain biked.
This one is easy except for the hike. If hiking is seen as part of the fun of Geocaching by you, then this one may be just right.
