End of the Road for OLD 71 Traditional Cache
mo pirate: Apparently the new adjacent property owner does not like geocaching. Does not want this near his house etc. so another oldie (almost 10 years old) bites the dust.

71 Hwy used to go in front of this group of houses. Now it is a
divided 4 lane highway here and this section serves these houses as
their access road to all their driveways/frontage. Terrain is
fairly level and an easy grab for the cache hunters. It should be
handicap accessible. Please place the cache back the same
direction, etc. as you found it.
About 50-60 years ago they re-did this stretch of highway 71 and
moved it west to help straighten out some of the curves and hills.
This abandoned section of highway only serves these few houses but
retains it's highway appearance. It may not be Route 66 but ever
since the Platte Purchase here in NW Missouri Savannah and St
Joseph have had important links in history. Much travel has been
done between these communities. This highway and the once famous
inter-urban railroad line paralelled each other on this N/S route.
As you find this cache you might want to consider all of the
pioneers that have already traveled through this area from the
1800's through today! This is a small cache with logbook, pencil,
normal small trade items, and a special 1776-1976 Silver Dollar for
the FTF. Small TB's or geocoins may also fit. Permission was
granted for this geocache by the property owner, Sandy. So please
respect her property and leave it as good or better than you found
it. CITO!
