The DNR bought this 40+acre parcel along the north branch of the Pine River last fall. This cache will get you started towards another cache 'down by the river'. The coords for that cache are found in the log book of this cache.
We spoke with folk at the Cadillac DNR office, using the DNR's published land ownership map as of March 2008, and a plat book. When you pull up to the gate, the 40 acres to the NW are now DNR property, and are planned to be managed by the parks division, again according to our conversation with Cadillac DNR officers familiar with this parcel. They are in touch with the former owners about the gate and trespassing signs. We'll attach a snippet of map showing you that from this gate the 40 acres to the NW are now DNR property, and cacher-land, woo-hoo. Another place to get access to the north branch of the Pine River!

The guy I talked to near the Pine River was pretty nice. He did say that it was his gate and signs, but said that they had been there since 1971 and he wasn't in any hurry to remove them. He said he was aware that the DNR was looking to buy that property, but he didn't realize it had been closed on already. When I told him I wanted to "check out" the land, he told me to enjoy myself - he didn't have any problem with me being there. Our car was parked just outside the gate and he waved to my wife and daughter and continued on his way.
