Help. While hiking along “A View to a Cache” Laurie stopped atop a cliff to enjoy the view and chat with friends. The events that unfolded are still a bit unclear suffice to say that to Laurie’s horror her walking stick appears to have fallen down the cliff landing somewhere in the middle on a small ledge. There was some discussion on how to rescue the poor fellow but it was clear from the start that a rope would be the best choice. Won’t you please help rescue the poor stick – tired and broken after being out here all this time.
You can’t see the cache from the top and you can’t see it from the bottom. The cache is anchored to a mountain laurel half way down on a small ledge with other brush growing on it.
DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE WITHOUT THE PROPER EQUIPMENT. YOU WILL FALL AND YOU WILL GET HURT UNLESS YOU HAVE A ROPE, HARNESS AND RELATED GEAR.
About the rap, roughly 80 feet with about 40 feet of free air at the bottom. I think this is my best rep cache yet – a truly fun and challenging descent. Once down there is a nice easy way back up to your left (facing the cliff). There are some other cool spots to climb and rep along this path including a huge overhang about 300feet before the cache site (if you are coming in from Rt 6). There is also some good climbing near “Leatherman’s Cave”. Your best bet is to anchor to the Big Oak and run the rope over the blue trail marker. I extended my anchor with a 25 foot static line which left just a few extra feet on my rope at the bottom.
