Geocache Description:

Another musical tribute cache on the old Royal Deeside Railway

The inspiration for the name of this cache comes from the old Music Hall song of 1893 by George LeBrunn and sung by Marie Lloyd and Will Hay's 1937 film:

Lately I just spent a week
With my old Aunt Brown,
Came up to see the wond'rous sights
Of famous London Town.
Just a week I had of it,
All round the place we'd roam,
Wasn't I sorry on the day
I had to go back home?
Worried about with packing,
I arrived late at the station,
Dropped my hat-box in the mud,
The things all fell about,
Got my ticket, said 'good-bye',
"Right away!" the guard did cry,
But I found the train was wrong,
And shouted out . . .:

Chorus: Oh! Mister Porter, what shall I do?
I want to go to Birmingham
And they're taking me on to Crewe.
Send me back to London
As quickly as you can

The porter would not stop the train,

Some old gentleman inside declared that it was hard,

I nearly balanced over,
But my old friend grasped my leg,

Nearly fainting with the fright,
I sank into his arms, a sight,
Went into hysterics but I cried in vain:-

Really he seemed a nice old boy,

Some of you might remember the alternative version sung by Sue Pollard in the TV comedy Oh! Dr Beeching which was filmed at Arley on the Severn Valley Railway where I spent much of my youth and from where at least part of my caching name originates.

Oh, Dr Beeching what have you done?
There once were lots of trains to catch, but soon there will be none,
I'll have to buy a bike, 'cos I can't afford a car,
Oh, Dr. Beeching what a naughty man you are!

The cache is situated at what was Cults Station on the Royal Deeside Line. The history of the line is well documented on other bookmarked caches in the series. The station was a simple wooden structure which now houses a local joinery business.

The surface of the old trackbed close to the cache has recently been upgraded. There are a number of caches bookmarked between Aberdeen and Banchory along the route.

When sited the cache contained a whistle, a key-ring torch, a trolley-token and my Canadian Geocoin which wanats to go home
