This cache has been archived.

gbmcache: The park is closed for construction along the greenway and normal access is denied. It will not be open for probably another year and I do not know what the terrain around the cache site will be then. Thank you to the 139 cachers who found the cache in its almost 7 years of existence, and those who made the effort without success.

Geocache Description:

There are several caches in the Campbell Creek Greenway, McAlpine Creek Park and Greenway, and Boyce Road Park area. Some are difficult; most are fairly easy. This should be one of the easier ones. Note the link below to a map of these three connected parks and greenways.

McAlpine Creek Greenway is a sports park, one of several in Mecklenburg County. Besides its eight soccer fields, fishing lake, nature trail, dog park, and other sport and recreation attractions there is a championship 5K cross country course. Each year there are many competitive races. It is a favorite for state and regional high school cross country meets, as well as sponsored charity events. I have run several Saturday morning races here, and have used the measured course as a jogging and walking trial countless times. The course includes two loops around the stocked lake.

As most runners and joggers experience, there is a point along the course where there begins what is known as the "runner's high." On this course I have noticed that the high is right at the 2.5 K mark, the half way point.

You can choose to follow your GPS directly to the cache, or you can take a 3.2 mile hike - jog if you please - picking up the cache along the way. The beginning of the course is marked, “Start,” and the end of the course is marked, “Finish.” See where you experience your high.
