Serrabou: This cache has run its course. The development of the Wedderburn property has started in earnest, and soon Stage 1 (just off the bike trail at a tower) will be just out someone's 600 square foot kitchen window. The walk to the final used to be along a secluded woodchip path up to the park...now it is paved just like the bike path. The final was hidden in the jungle near the playground, and has been muggled several times, and to be frank, isn't the most friendly area for a cache hunt, at least in the summer.

I stopped by today and removed the geo-bits. This was my second cache hide, and my first to archive. Thanks to everyone for coming to find it, the great logs, and the pictures. Farewell Midgetville!

Geocache Description:

A 2-stage multi. First stage is a micro with the coordinates for the second and final stage. The second stage is a small, well-hidden camo'd loc-n-loc.

Stage 1 overlooks the former Wedderburn property, a site locally known as Midgetville (a popular story was that little-people abandoned a circus entourage by jumping off the train and hiding in these woods, to later build a secret town). In the late 19th century it was a summertime resort with several tiny folk-art cottages tucked into the woodland along the W&OD Railroad. The courtyard held fairs and a farmers market. Unfortunately, the Wedderburn family was unable to continue to pay the rising property taxes and sold the land. The area is now under development (26 new homes on 1/2-acre lots) so you'll have to use your imagination.

Stage 2 is a short walk away in a Fairfax County Park, and is placed according to the published FCPA guidelines for geocaches. Do not trespass on private property. This cache is not accessible after dark.

Limited parking off Cedar lane at the bike trail (see waypoint).

NOTICE: Please be respectful of the park hours. FCPA Parks are open dawn to dusk unless otherwise posted. If you enter the park after hours you are trespassing. If you are stopped you can be ticketed, or arrested and you will jeopardize the future of geocaching in the parks. Do NOT hunt this cache at night!
