Geocache Description:

Multi-cache in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery

This is a multi-cache located in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hanover, PA. The first three stages are virtual, leading to the final stage, which is a lock and lock container. This particular cemetery is the final resting place of Civil War Pioneer newspaper woman Mary Shaw Leader, and of Corporal John Hoffacker, a soldier killed in the Battle of Hanover.

The Battle of Hanover took place on June 30, 1863, and is notable for being the first Civil War battle in the Keystone State. Although the battle lasted only one day and was small by Civil War standards, it played an important part in the Gettysburg campaign.

Union artillery perched on Bunker Hill fired down on the town as the soldiers attempted to hold back the advancing Confederates. J.E.B. Stuart's cavalry did not expect to run into Union soldiers on their way north, but there they were nevertheless. The resulting battle kept the Confederate cavalry busy -- and away from Gettysburg. The Confederates were unable to get around the 3,500 or so Union troops, and so they missed the first two days of the Battle of Gettysburg, putting General Lee at a significant disadvantage. During the battle, Confederate artillery was positioned on the ground that the Cemetery now occupies.
(Info taken from the visit Pennsylvania website)

While at the Cemetery, one can also view the Soldiers' Memorial with plaques bearing the names of Civil War soldiers from Hanover and the vicinity. The posted coordinates will take you to this memorial, where you can gather the information necessary to decipher the coordinates for the second stage. Please note that this cemetery is CLOSED AFTER DARK. Please do not try to retrieve this cache during that time.

The coordinates for the second stage are N 39*47.ABC W 076*58.DEF.

How many McKinney's are listed on the monument? C

The last digit of the year for the end of the war that the memorial commemorates =D

Once at the location for stage 2, look around to find the answers for the coordinates to stage 3. The coordinates for the third stage are N 39*47.GHI W 076*58.JKL

The year that this part of the Cemetery was established was G0K6.

Once at stage three, look for the answers to the following questions to get to the final destination. The final coordinates are N 39*47.MNO W 076*58.PQR.

The number of flagpoles at this site minus D =M

The first digit of the number of stars on the Air Force Seal =N

What Post donated the American flag? OQ

The number of seals on the monument divided by I =P

The number of words along the base of the monument -J =R

Due to the cache being muggled and the muggles setting up what looks like a loitering area at ground zero, I have had to move the final cache container. To adjust for this, add .040 to the north coordinates, and subtract .072 from the west coordinates. As a check, the last three digits of both should be equal.
If you answered all the questions correctly, the coordinates should take you to an ammo can. As alway, please make sure the cache is hidden as well as or better than you found it. The cache contains some swag to begin. Happy Hunting!
