A series of 19 caches (plus a bonus) between Newton Solney and
Willington, following the River Trent for 10, then on parallel
footpath across fields for another 9. There are plenty of places to
park at either end of the series. Just over the bridge near #10, or
by the river near #18 would be fine.
Half the walk is along the banks of the River Trent, pathways are
marked but not always clearly in the central section. The section
is close to water, and there is plenty of evidence of
livestock.(#1-#10)
The footpaths on #13-#17 can be largely navigated by bike, as can
#18 and #19.
The walk is about 6 miles to do them all, but the terrain is mostly
2, and difficulty 1.5- 2. However, there are a few
curveballs.
Takes almost 4 hours on foot, with a couple of rest breaks and
finding time.
A great walk for the family and geomutts.
This is a flood plain, so terrain may be very muddy in places, and
not available at all during the rainy season. All caches are very
close to the marked footpaths, (Memory map can be useful at times.)
but some may require “special equipment”.
Check the front page of any of the series log books for the
co-ords, or the combination for the bonus cache.
You'll need both parts. The co-ords are held on an LCD unit. DO NOT
TAKE IT FROM THE CACHE. Press the "on" button and the co-ords will
be displayed. Press it again to turn it off, or the batteries will
go flat. Do not press any of the other keys or the unit may
reset.
The clues may be in one of the "old" caches, so apologies to
those
that have already done #1-10.
Watch out for slippery steps on the approach, and nettles at the
GZ.
