Robidoux Blacksmith Needed!
Love the
early pioneer history of our area and always had been intent on
driving the 'pass'.
Robidoux
Pass was an early part of the Oregon Trail and departed from the
river route until Mitchell Pass was opened (around the Scotts Bluff
National Monument) in 1851-1852. With no wagon traffic near this
area it soon was abandoned as the population centers moved back
towards the river. Close by are five pioneer graves (w/cache)
located about 1/4 mile to the northwest. Further 1/4 mile
west is an old wagon reportedly abandoned by the early pioneers who
traveled the area. This cache site has two markers commemorating
the site of the blacksmith shop and some interesting info about the
abundance of water in the area during the Oregon Trail days.
Further info can be found here, http://www.geringtourism.com/attractions.php
.
There is the
Robidoux Trading Post located 2 3/4 miles (the way the crow flies)
which is associated with this site. Follow the signs on the road to
the west. A nice scenic drive.
Other caches
in the area are, 'Robidoux Trading
Post', 'Robidoux Pioneer Graves', & 'Looks Like A Good
Place For A Cache To Me.'
Have fun
with this 'get you there cache'
