This cache is located just outside a cemetery in Calloway County, KY. You will not have to disturb any gravesites to find this cache. There is a road that circles around the outside of the cemetery. You can drive around it to near the cache location. the cache is about 15 feet in the woods outside the gravesites. The container is a medium sized camouflaged Lock-n-Lock box.
I discovered this cemetery after playing a round of golf at our local golf course down the road. I always like to venture home a different way to see what different sites I might come upon. I like this drive since it takes you near Kentucky Lake. Normally I would veer to the right, but this day I noticed the cemetery sign. I proceeded to turn down the road and make my way to the cemetery. I figured I would come a cross a small, old country cemetery, but when I made it up to the entrance I was greeted by a vast and what seemed like a modern cemetery.
Upon further inspection I did notice many recent graves, but then I noticed several older graves in the central area of the cemetery. Research on some of the names led me to discover that some of the early Barnetts were early settlers of Calloway County. They came from North Carolina and Virginia in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Some may have initially settled in Fort Boonesborough near Richmond, KY, before heading further west. About 100 feet east of the cache location is a new marker for Nathaniel T. and Catherine Barnett. Beside it are two stones which would be the original tombstones. Nathaniel's Dad, John Nathaniel Barnett, and Catherine's Dad, Thomas Barnett, along with other family members are also buried in the cemetery with unmarked graves probably in the open space nearby.
Upon my initial visit I also noticed the beautiful expansive view to the East. I remember thinking that this would be a beautiful view to watch a Sunrise. Some of the nearby land was listed in deeds as belonging to the Barnetts. Which led me to the name, "Sunrise at the Barnetts".
I hope you enjoy finding "Sunrise at the Barnetts".
