Rubio Woods Forest Preserve / Bachelors Grove Cemetery
Hidden away from the normal everyday hustle and bustle is a
small, forgotten graveyard. It comes to fall within the regulations
of the Cook County Forest Preserve District.
Did you ever wonder what family members of those that have
and/or had been buried here would say as to the treatment of their
family member’s graves? How would they react to how the once
hallowed ground has been kept in such ill care?
Is this one of Illinois most haunted places? Have things of a
paranormal nature occurred here? Have you seen the house appear?
Have you visited the cemetery in hopes of catching something
paranormal? Have you heard things you can not explain? Do you have
any stories to share about your confrontation with the paranormal
while at Bachelors Grove Cemetery?
I have relatives buried in Bachelors Grove Cemetery. Well, not
my exact bloodline, but my half sisters. In talking to Swinney17 we
thought it would be nice to have a cache honoring a family who was
buried here. Swinney17, placed the cache, and I developed the
puzzle for you to solve. We thought it was neat since we actually
could tie this cemetery into an actual geocachers family tree.
I have never visited Bachelors Grove. I grew up reading and
hearing about the high amount of vandalism that took place. What is
our society coming to, when even a cemetery is no longer a place
for eternal rest? To this day, the desecration continues.
Headstones moved, covered in wax, garbage dumped on the very land
that these people picked for its beauty, yet our peers and others
have stolen that from them with time. Would you personally want
your final resting place to look like this? I would hope not, this
does not resemble serenity in any way shape or form in my eyes.
You can make a difference! CITO!
How? One simple proposal would be to open the cemetery back up
to a park like setting. Thin the trees and cut back the undergrowth
of bushes and thorns would allow a more open view of the cemetery.
Repair the fence surrounding the cemetery and give it a fresh coat
of paint. Remaining headstones would be moved back to where they
belong, missing headstones replaced. Establish a parking lot with a
few street lights and a nice pathway leading to the entrance of the
cemetery. A short hiking path around the old remaining foundations
of the house located not far away. Street light and pathway
illumination could also be engineered with solar lighting. A nice
historical plaque with the area history would bring people to the
area in a positive atmosphere. Vandalism to the cemetery and
surrounding land would diminish rather quickly. By cleaning up this
one cemetery, it would clean up the surrounding community and bring
pride.

Now on to the cache!
You will need to visit the above coordinates for the headstone
waypoint to get your clues for the cache location. Be sure to check
out the old house foundations while you are there. There is a cache
by the old house foundation too!
