Geocache Description:

I noticed this cache hasn't been grabbed in near 2 years, so we went up to check on it. The trail in off 091 and to UPPER road off the wash has also changed due to heavy rains and lack of use. We add the turn off coords. and some pictures. The trick to getting to the old mining camp is to stay UP on the trail(s) to the EAST (right) side of the canyon and out of the wash(s) on the Left going in. See Pics and print this info.

This is a neat canyon. The cache is located in an old Mining Camp, you can see where the big tent was, and all the old cans and rusty metal around the area. I'm told the miner had 3 small tunnels where he mined, that are farther up the canyon, we didn't have time to find out. Plus on the way out if you go to N32 degrees.47.2270' W116 degrees 04.0007' up on a little hill you'll see a 2000 plus year old Indian site. This site is reg. with the State of CA, Archaeology Dept. They said it was used as a compass of sorts, to find some other site/camp in Mexico. Anyways enjoy, and please don't move the rocks at the Indian site.

We try to place our Caches (8) so they can be found by driving in a loop if you know the area, or have a BLM / Topo maps. I’d start with Tower in the Desert then Sugarloaf Mt, Canyon Cache, Crock in the Rocks, C & R's Toy Cache, Giant Rock Block Wall, and on to Becky's Peak, under the Hwys and arcoss the Yuha flats, or down Hwy 98 to De Anza Overlook, and back to Ocotillo.

Congratulations to OZHOO for being the first to find all 8 of the Ocotillo 8 caches. Not only is he the first, but also he did them all on a mountain bike. Check his profile, and look at the caches he found, and read the log of his find. All on a bike, and through some very rough desert, it’s very impressive…. Jim of the Ocotillo 8

CONGRATS to the Ocotillo TrailRiders for being the 2nd to find all 8 of our Ocotillo 8 caches. What makes it note worthy is the fact they did a couple with no coordinates, and the rest with a GPS that you can’t enter waypoints into. So they walk around the cache area till the numbers start getting close. Now that’s a determined crew. Jim of the Ocotillo 8
