Geocache Description:

Park and Grab a half block from the location of the now gone Tulsa Coliseum.

The Tulsa Coliseum was built in 1925 with a capacity of 4502 spectators and burned down to the ground after a lightning fire in 1952. There is not a trace of it left. The site, 502 South Elgin, is now occupied by a modern building owned by an international telecommunications company. The Coliseum was the original home of the Tulsa Oilers Ice Hockey team. During its lifetime it hosted not just hockey games but many wrestling and boxing matches, concerts and many other community events. It was the major venue of the time for Tulsa. In 1944 the owner of the Oilers, Sam Avey purchased the coliseum and continued to use it for hockey games, and boxing and wrestling matches. Mr. Avey also owned KAKC AM radio and had its studios in the basement. He also held an annual childrens Chrismas party at the building and donated the proceeds of one of he wrestling matches to a milk fund for underprivileged children. The building hosted boxer Joe Louis and ice skater Sonja Henie.

The cache is actually a half block to the east and a little to the south of the former Tulsa Coliseum Site. The cache site is relatively remote. Although it is a parking lot, very few people park there, and cachers shouldn't be bothered by muggles too much.
