We Be Jeepin' up Chariot Canyon to
Oriflame Canyon to Rodriguez Canyon with a lunch stop at the bottom
of Oriflame.
Chariot Canyon and Oriflame
Canyon can be done with high clearance, two wheel drive.
Rodriguez Canyon has a couple of short, rocky spots that will
require high clearance 4wd and at
least 31" tires.
You can choose to do the first
part of the run which is about 9 miles long, and exit out Oriflame
to S-2 which is about 2 miles away, if you don't have 4wd. From
there, go left on S2 and back to Hwy. 78 at Scissors Crossing.
There are caches in the Julian area or East on 78 to the Ocotillo
Wells area.
START:
10:00 am TOTAL DISTANCE: 17.4
miles (Rodriguez & Oriflame)
TIME: We should be
able to do the entire trail in about 4 hours including the lunch
stop and a few caches.
BRING: A lunch or
snacks and plenty to drink in case it's hot. Chairs and the
usual desert stuff.
DISCLAIMER: You
are responsible for making sure your vehicle is capable, and the
driver is able! The Splashes and their trail crew cannot be
held responsible for your poor judgement and/or driving
skills.
The trail follows a creek for
awhile, we saw a few wild turkeys along the way. There are a few
mines and we will descend some steep switchbacks getting down to
the bottom of the canyon. It's a scenic drive
link to video going down Rodrigues Canyon.

Please note we will be going
