Frère Stiol est élève au séminaire de Crémieu. En cette année 1614, il entame sa dernière saison sous la coupe de son précepteur, le père supérieur Uvien. C'est un bon élève, prometteur, aussi le père Uvien, souffrant d'une mauvaise grippe, n'hésite pas bien longtemps avant de lui confier une importante mission : apporter à l'archevêque de Vienne un crucifix sacré. Il va sans dire que la réussite de cette tâche comptera en vue de sa future ordination comme abbé, le rêve de frère Stiol.
Armé de son bâton de pèlerin, de sa plus belle toge et d'un petit sac en toile, il se met donc en marche à l'aube. Après un voyage agréable en L'île Crémieu, sous un beau soleil printanier, Frère Stiol entra dans la bourgade de St Chef qui, depuis près d'un siècle, rayonne grâce à l'activité des chanoines qui occupent l'abbaye.
En entrant dans le village (Notes de l'auteur : les recherches archéologiques effectuées dans les années 2000 ont révélé que frère Stiol est entré par le point N 45° 38.138' et E05°21.751), il gravit prestement un petit escalier vers le bois d'Yvrard avant de faire une courte halte à l'ombre des arbres. Après une si longue marche, il était nécessaire de manger un morceau de ce délicieux pain dur. Il épongea ensuite son front et attrapa son balluchon et son bâton.
Reprenant le petit chemin qui le mène au centre de la bourgade, après être passé devant la maison de monsieur le curé, il s'arrêta avec joie à une petite fontaine où il put s'abreuver sans crainte. En se retournant légèrement, il découvrit en hauteur une inscription qui retint son attention ; machinalement, sans qu'il ne sut vraiment pourquoi, il compta le nombre de lettres de ces 2 mots ( A ).
Afin de prendre un peu de hauteur pour admirer l'abbaye, il emprunta la ruelle montant non loin le val Rupéen, vers le quartier de la Chapelle . Poursuivant naturellement le parcours, il s'arrêta un moment rue de la paroisse, devant l'une de ces belles fermes dauphinoises construites en pisé. Frère Stiol s'était souvent demandé comment elles étaient réalisées. Il nota sur son petit carnet le nom de l'instrument qui servait à compacter la terre pour le rapporter au Père Uvien ( B ).
Il croisa alors un villageois qui lui conseilla de se rendre au point de vue panoramique situé un peu plus bas dans le quartier, non loin de la taverne rustique. "On y accède par un passage étroit", lui indiqua-t-il. De là, on pouvait en effet embrasser tout le bourg. Il décida de se rendre au point noté 1, visiblement centre de toutes les activités du bourg.
Redescendu sur la place, il s'aperçut qu'il lui restait encore plusieurs kilomètres avant de rejoindre Rochetoirin ( 7 ,C10 km exactement). C'est là qu'il doit retrouver l'archevêque de Vienne.
Comme la soirée approchait, il décida de dormir à St Chef chez son oncle, chanoine ouvrier. Ce dernier l'invita auparavant à l'accompagner au château, rendre visite à Saint Jullin, président au parlement de Grenoble, pour une petite réparation de son portail. Ils gravirent ensemble le coteau qui mène au quartier du château. Frère Stiol releva le nom du castel qui correspondait à cette bâtisse (Castel D ).
Il se produisit alors un évènement qui allait changer la face de l'histoire, celle de frère Stiol surtout. Il rencontra la fille du propriétaire des lieux : la charmante Aveline. Il en tomba immédiatement amoureux. Tous deux décidèrent alors de vivre ensemble. Plus de mission pour frère Stiol, qui ne deviendra donc jamais l'Abbé Stiol. Ils décidèrent de cacher le crucifix. Pour cela, il dissimulèrent l'endroit exact dans un coffret (Notes de l'auteur : ce coffret serait vers le point N 45°38.1(C-4)8' E 5°(A+1).855' ).
L'histoire n'a pas retenu ce que sont devenus M. Stiol et Aveline. Sans doute vécurent-ils longtemps heureux et eurent-ils beaucoup de petits Stiol. Le crucifix n'a jamais été retrouvé quant à lui. Mais peut-être plus pour longtemps ...

Brother Stiol is seminarist at "Crémieu". In 1614, he begins the last season with his teacher, the superior Father Uvien. It is a good student, also the father Uvien, suffering from a bad influenza, doesn't hesitate for a long time before to give him an important mission : bring to the archbishop of "Vienne" a sacred crucifix.
Armed with his pilgrim's staff, with his most beautiful toga and with a small bag, he starts up at dawn. After a pleasant journey in "Île Crémieu", under a beautiful spring sun, Brother Stiol entered in the village of St Chef's which, since about a century, shone because of the activity of the canons who occupied the abbey.
By entering the village (Author's notes : the archaeological researches made in the 2000's revealed that brother Stiol entered by the point N 45 ° 38.138' and E05°21.751'), he climbs a staircase to the "bois d'Yvrard" before making a quick break in the shade of the trees. After a so long travel, it was necessary to eat a piece of this delicious hard bread. He wiped then the head and caught his bag and his staff.
Walking on the small road which leads him in the center of the village, being walked past "La maison de monsieur le curé", he stopped with enjoyment in front of a small fountain where he was able to drink without fear. By turning the head, he discovered above an inscription ; automatically, he counted the number of letters of these 2 words ( A ).
In order to admire the abbey, he took the alley rising not far towards the "Quartier de la Chapelle". Pursuing naturally the way, he stopped a moment in front of one of these beautiful constructed farms in "pisé". Brother Stiol had often wondered how they were realized. He noted on his small pad the name of the instrument which served for compacting the soil to report it to the Father Uvien ( B ).
He crossed then a villager who advised him to go to the panoramic point of view situated a little lower, in the district, not far from the "taverne rustique". We reach it by a narrow. From there, we could see all the village. He decided to go to the point 1.
Got down on the place, he noticed that he still had several kilometres before joining "Rochetoirin" (7, C 10 exactly). It is there that he had to find the archbishop of "Vienne".
As the evening came, he decided to sleep to St Chef at his uncle, "chanoine ouvrier" (labor canon). He invited him before to to come with him in the castle, to visit "Saint Jullin", president to the "parlement de Grenoble", for a small work (repair its portal). They climbed together the hillside which leads to the district of the castle. Brother Stiol found the "nom du castel" (name of the mansion) which corresponded to this building (Castel D).
There happened an event which was going to change the face of the story, Brother Stiol's one especially. He met the girl of "St Jullin" : the preety Aveline. He fell in love. Both, they decided to live together. No more mission for Brother Stiol.. They decided to hide the crucifix. For that purpose, he hid the exact place in a little chest (Author's notes : this chest would be towards the point N 45°38.1 (C-4) 8 ' E 5 ° (A+1) .855 ').
The story didn't explain that became Mr Stiol and Aveline. Doubtless they lived for a long time happy and they had many of childrens. The crucifix was never found. But maybe not more for a long time...
