Geocache Description:

Set amongst the Northern Fells of the Lake District on the Cumbrain Way Long Distance Path - A quiet and scenic area - well worth a visit

Placed in a beautiful spot commonly referred to as 'The Back Of Skiddaw' (hence the cache name?) and right next to Skiddaw House.

Skiddaw house was a former shepherds' & gamekeeper lodge and was built around 1829, by the Earl of Egremont as a “keeper’s lodge”; a base for grouse-shooting and for the gamekeepers who managed the extensive land owned by Egremont in the area known as Skiddaw Forest

It remained in use up until the 1960s after which it was allowed to decline. In 1987 it was converted into a independent hostel and now stands as the highest hostel in Britain, at 1550ft.

Cache is placed with the hostel warden's full knowledge and agreement so no need to be stealthy! Just watch out for other muggles.

Cache is just off an intersection of three major paths and is on the Cumbrian Way

This cacahe is not placed in the stone wall - so please do NOT dismantle what remains of the wall
