Defiance Halte (originally spelt with an 'e') was opened on
1.3.1905 on the Great Western Railway line between Saltash and St
Germans to serve HMS Defiance, the Navy's Torpedo and Wireless
Training School, which was moored in the river Lynher, just off
Wearde Quay. It was originally on the original, more southern,
routing of the line which ran over several of Brunel's wooden truss
viaducts.
The line was deviated onto its current route from just the
Saltash side of the halt, so an extra platform and shelters were
added. The station officially closed in October 1930, but was used
in spring and summer for the loading of flowers and garden produce
up until 1957.
The platforms and the steps leading to the down platform can
still be seen, but there is no longer public access.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU REPLACE STONES IN FRONT OF THE CACHE
CONTAINER - THANKS.
