Stanshawes Court was one of a two large estates, other being brimsham manor and both have long histories. Brinsham Manor dates to the 13th century, but the manor house itself vanished in Tudor times and was replaced by a large farm which still survives today. Stanshawes ( originally Stone House) Manor dates back to 1231. However in 1871 the estate was purchased by Mr. Robert Hooper, who demolished the old manor and built a magnificent Victorian Mansion, which survives to this day as the Stanshawes Court Hotel .
