Dailly Exercise Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Pint & Two Halves: 2nd in a phased sequence of my cache shutdowns. No visits in over a year! Caching isn't what it was and no-one seems interested in doing anything more strenuous than pulling a magnet off a street sign, sad really for something that started with "The Great Outdoors" in mind.

Geocache Description:

A cache using the Ayrshire Paths network around the former mining village of Dailly in the heart of the Girvan Valley. This path has something for everyone, country lanes, open hillside, mixed woodland & riverside sections. It can easily be combined with our other cache Dailly Express

Park anywhere in Main St and locate the information board in Greenhead Square, by the war memorial. The cache route follows the oak leaf markers of the "Barony Hill" walk and involves an ascent of approx 300m. The full route covers approx 10.5km and therefore will never really qualify as a cache'n'dash. It does however afford open views of the Girvan Valley and beyond. Most notably Ailsa Craig standing sentinel in the Clyde, the ruined Dalquharran Castle (built in 1786 to a design by Robert Adam) and northward towards Maybole & Ayr.

To reach the cache location first make the summit of Barony Hill then follow your little arrow or head on a bearing of 18 ° magnetic for between 400 & 500 metres. After the cache head West on the obvious quad track until you rejoin the waymarked path at the forest gate.
