Ever play Chutes and Ladders® when you where a kid? Ever want to
play it as an adult but on a more grand scale? Well here's your
chance! I've created a Wherigo version of the classic kid's board
game for you. And to top it off, once you finish the game you'll be
given the coordinates to a cache!

The original board game was played on a small cardboard game
board that contained a 10x10 grid, plastic/cardboard game pieces
and a 6 position spinner. My version varies from the original in
that the "game board" is approximately 270 square feet consisting
of a 5x5 grid, a 4 position spinner and YOU are the game piece. The
rules of mine are the same as the original board game. You spin the
spinner and move to the appropriate square. Some squares contain
ladders which move you 'up' the game board, while some others
contain slides that move you 'down' the game board. See the image
below as a reference for how the game board is setup. As with the
original game you must land on the final square (the 25th one in
this case) with an exact spin. First one to reach the final square
wins!

What? First one to reach the final square wins?
Yup, you can play the game with as many people as you would like
(each player must have their own Wherigo device), The
result of 'spinning the spinner' is random, so each player's path
through the game will be different; just like spinning a real
spinner. If more than one player is playing, just meet up at the
starting square and decide who's going to go first, second, third,
etc. Player 1 goes and when their turn is over they should signal
to the next player to take their turn and so on; just as if you
were sitting around the game board playing at home.
Some important information to keep in mind. You
only receive the coordinates for the cache after successfully
reaching the final square. The cartridge is set to complete (for
later upload on Wherigo.com) only after reaching the final square.
So if you're in a multi player game and don't win, you should
probably still finish the game to get the cartridge set as complete
and to get the cache coordinates for yourself.
The game playing area is located at Oak Grove Farm in Millis, MA
on the front soccer fields. The toughest part of completing this
may be your timing, as these fields get used quite a bit during the
soccer seasons. Both the game playing
area at Oak Grove and the area where the cache is located are open
only during daylight hours, so please limit your visits to that
timeframe.
Groundspeak is currently not allowing "Play Anywhere" cartridges
to be used for geocaches so that's why I had to define the playing
area. For your entertainment though I have released a "Play
Anywhere" version of this cartridge on Wherigo.com. It can be
downloaded by clicking HERE. This version does not contain any
geocache information and is not affiliated in any way with this
cache. Just thought I'd let you know it's there. You'll need a
large field with approximately 315' Due East and 270' Due North
of open space from your current position when you start the game
in order to play.
A Certificate and Pin await the FTF.
Congratulations to Bigrock95 on being FTF!!
