The SJG web site was down last week.  Cachers where suffering from the sudden loss of contact with their compatriots through the site. The amount of urgent e-mails and texting in the back ground was quite amusing.  Conspiracy theories abounded.  Had we all been banned for life for some something we did or did not do?  Had the site been hacked by some computer geek?  Had the site crashed and burned from all the traffic it receives?  Or did someone forget to pay a bill?  Inquiring minds wanted to know.

This old hobbit retreated to the solace of puzzles and wandering through the forest to seek some insight.  No insights where found. However an  interesting variation on an old puzzle was revealed while wandering about an outstanding location in Wharton State Forest. So both of these elements were combined to share with the caching community  I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

Here is the classic Sudoku puzzle taken to the next level - 4x4.  In this puzzle the numbers 1 to 9 plus the letters A through G  must be placed in the grid in such a manner so that each letter/number appears only once in each row, each column and each 4 by 4 square.  Increasing the size of the square increases the complexity and the fun.

6     C D       B 2   F       8
5 1 8     F                 C
      B A 4   8 3     1   G E
      G C B E 3     8 D F     5
              D   G   8     B E
9 E 2   8 6     C   B     7
    G   4 2 3         5 A   1
  A     5         D       C
D   9   B E 1     F   4       7
    5   F         C   E
      A 3     6 G       1 E   D
3 2   E 7 G     1       B   4 F
7     8 6 5   C E     A
  6         4   8 7 1     2
    B 2 1                 6   C
C 5       D 7   6   F

In this puzzle, the blue squares represent the latitude while the green squares will show the longitude.
