Geocache Description:

Kingsley D. Bundy Park
South from SE 141st & Foster rd.
A forested hiking trail, alongside Johnson Creek, that ends at a secluded picnic/fishing spot (I spotted a huge Great Blue Heron there).

OK, a warning is needed: This cache is a bit of a dare, for those up for more adventure than usual.

Firstly, access is via a very unmaintained lane that is not even marked, off of Foster rd. Technically it's 141st ave. but there's no sign. It's the narrow gravel/mud pathway between 140th and 142nd, chock full of mud-puddly potholes.

Secondly, there's no place to park down at the end of the lane. The locals (or whoever) have blockaded cars from the end (where the park's entrance gate is) with a heap of mud and debris - who knows why, but it's there. The initial coordinates are the best spot for parking, but there's only room for 1 car. It's a short walk from the entrance.

Thirdly, you'll be entering a twilight zone of Appalachia here. Hundred-pound pitbulls that will try to eat through their fence to get at you, trash and debris (piles of old tires, broken washing machines, etc.), residential junkyards... Once inside the park itself it's fine, but getting there is a journey through what feels a bit like hillbilly heaven.

OK, go to the "Memorial Tree" waypoint and find the fancy plaque. There are 2 numbers on it. Add them together.

Add this number to the decimal minutes (ignoring the decimal point) of the following dummy coordinates to get the true coordinates of the hide:
N 45 24.509
W 122 27.343

To approach the final location take the trail that goes (from the tree) past Alex's grave, nearby (see photo link below), and beyond the Throne of the Goblin King (see photo link below). It'll eventually lead you to the correct area.

My face cleared away about a hundred spiderwebs that were spanning the trail, so you should have an easier time of it than I did.

The cache itself is a 4" tall plastic jar that is externally marked as a geocache. It contains a logsheet and pen. For first-to-find I threw in a handful of YAG laser crystals and a toy hourglass.

After you've found the cache, go for the bonus and see if you can find the creepy oubliette that's in the area not too far from the creek. Who knows what kind of nefarious backwoods purposes this little dungeon-well has been used for - I shudder to think...

Lastly, if you hear any squealing-like-a-pig or banjo playing, you'd best grab your bow and arrows and hastily retreat to your canoe...

(For those of you who have NOT seen the classic movie "Deliverance" -click on user's webpage link above- a viewing of it is highly recommended as a training/instructional video for attempting this cache.)

Good luck, be careful, and WATCH YOUR '6'!
