This is the place were the actual trail crossed what is now hiway 75. An access road is within 50-60 ft of the cache. PLEASE DO NOT PARK ALONG 75. There are other caches in the area so come out and find a few!
Thank You for visiting my Sante Fe Trail Cache. Maybe this information will help you. I too had wanted to see the "Ruts" and I had always invisioned them as two ruts left by heavy wagons or a series of ruts in a particular area. After studying the subject a little, I found that I was actually looking at them at several places I had been to and didn't even know it. The best example I can give you is a cache located east of Baldwin city, ks."Wagon Ruts" (GC533D). There were so many wagons that passed along the Sante Fe Trail that they left huge indentations in the earth. The depressions in this area are close to 75 ft wide and close to12 feet deep. So maybe you too have actually seen the ruts and didn't realize how big they really are. If you decide to go to Wagon Ruts (GPWMVY), ,Baldwin City hosts their annual Maple leaf festival every 3rd weekend in October and there is a local event called Breakfast at BlackJack. The breakfast is held very near ( 1/4 mile from these ruts). It is a very cool event. This year the cost is $5 and it it is held outdoors at the Blackjack Battlefield on Sunday, October 19,2008 8am to 10 am or until we run out of food. I hope this helps!
