Geocache Description:

There have been at least 2 previous caches nearby, by Keiko's Buddies (our first ever cache find) and by Sea2Sky. This area is so nice it really NEEDS a cache. Trails are kind of rough - watch your footing. There are several ways to access this site but best to park at 49.38.592 124.55.909.

The cache is named 'The Old Channel' because it sits beside the old channel of the nearby river. The ground you will be standing on was part of the adjacent farm, until it was cut off by the current river channel! Since they could no longer directly access this part of their farm, the farm owners kindly donated this land to the BC Nature Trust to keep the estuary habitat undisturbed. If there is water in the channel it is actually seawater that comes in on a high tide, not river water. Kind of an interesting bit of local history.
