A nice walk along a paved path close to beautiful downtown Lyle.
Cache is located along the Balfour Scenic Trail. It can be reached from the west side of the Klickitat River by going up the hill on the old Hwy 8 road to the turn into the trailhead. You can go along the trail in either direction because it is about the same distance either way. There is a profusion of wildflowers and trees so enjoy the walk. We particularly enjoyed the Osage Orange trees that they planted for hedge rows because they were "horse high, bull-strong, and hog-tight". On the north side of the trail we did see one of the "oranges" on the ground. It looked like a green lumpy orange. The wood from the trees was also prized for making bows and a well balanced Osage Orange bow was good in trade for either a good woman or a horse and blanket. Cache is an ammo can with some nice goodies and an unactivated Nordic geocoin for FTF. The ammo can is sitting up on some pieces of wood in case there is any water so please replace it back on the wood pieces.
