Two weeks ago, while driving along Brookfield Avenue, a coyote crossed the street in front of me, then went across the railroad tracks, and into the woods.
This incident reminded me that there are other animals along this stretch of tracks, enough for a "mini-series" of micro caches. That is, if two constitutes a series. The other one is at "Animal Tracks #1B - Brookfield's Trademark (GC21CCB)". Animal Tracks #1 has been archived.
This is a multi-cache. At stage 1 you will be lion hunting. Stage 2 will take you near the spot where the coyote and I crossed paths. You will be hunting for a micro cache containing a log sheet only. Bring a pen.
I wanted to make this a traditional cache, hiding it inside one of the lions (you'll see what I had in mind when you get there) but cache placement regulations near railroads wouldn't allow it. So now you'll have to do just a little bit of math to log this find. Here's what you do:
Find the lions.
.
Notice in which direction the male is looking, (using a 16 point compass).
Substitute those letters with numbers (A=1, B=2, C=3 ... Y=25, Z=26), giving you a 4 digit number that we will call
ABCD
B + C =x
C + D - B= y
Take the 2 digit number xy and subtract it from the last 3 digits (tenths, hundreths and thousanths) of the North coordinate.
Now look into the eyes of the female. What direction is she looking in? (looking, not standing, as she has her head turned) Substituting numbers for letters as before, should give you a 6 digit number that we will call
ABCDEF
A + C = x
B + E = y
C + F = z
Take the 3 digit number xyz and add it to the last 3 digits of the west coordinate.
Go get the cache. You can walk to it, ride your bike, drive, or take the train. When you get there, be as stealthy as a lion.
Be very discreet with your actions, muggles will likely pass by, and at times it may be teeming with them. When placing the cache back in it's hiding spot, be sure to place it with the cap facing out, for better camoflauge.
If you actually enjoyed doing the paperwork for this one, and you have some time for more number fun, check out GC15JC4 "The Hollywood Islands", or GC12ZAH "Cicadas Dig The Oak Savanna", both right around the corner.
Note: July 9, 2008- original cache was muggled, new one placed nearby. Calculations have been changed for new coords.

Note: December 4, 2008 - This morning I placed a little prize to go along with the cache, It is for the FDF (First December Finder). A stuffed lion is attached to the cache container. Would the next finder please pull it out, detatch it and take it home. Don't rub him the wrong way, he will roar. As always, be as stealthy as a lion around here, and have a nice Christmas.
