Geocache Description:

Traditional cache located in the Hemlock Overlook Regional Park along the Occaquan to Bull Run trail.

This cache is a medium-sized metal ammo can filled with various fun toys and trinkets. The cache was placed by my daughters, Sam (age 11) and Charlie (age 9), who recently started geocaching with me. This spot is off the Bull Run Occoquan Trail, where we frequently take our labrador, Harry, for cool refreshing swims during the summer.

The site is located along the Bull Run - Occoquan Trail within Hemlock Overlook Park, near Clifton, VA. The trail runs more than 18 miles, from Manassas to Occaquan, along Bull Run and is a very popular trail for day hikers, fishing enthusiasts, kayakers and canoers, and great place to take your four-legged companions. The trail is not heavily traveled, so I almost always let our dog run free off the leash.

The easiest way to get to the site is to drive to Hemlock Overlook Regional Park. From Clifton Road turn onto Yates Ford Road (headed West) and drive for approx. 1.9 miles to Hemlock Overlook Park. Once you get to the park, you will see a small parking area near a trail head (Yellow Trail). Park there and take the Yellow Trail for about .4 mile down to the river, then turn right (North) onto the Blue Trail for almost .7 mile. The trails are well marked and are of moderate difficulty, therefore sneakers or hiking shoes are highly recommended for your hike.

Be sure to enjoy the scenery along the way. The hike should be as enjoyable as cache finding. You may want to pack a lunch and enjoy a relaxing picnic along the river. Be sure to look for blue herons; we often spot them along the trail. Good luck and happy hunting.
